Application · Bag condition
Over-wrapped bags, tested without opening the pouch.
Many IV bags leave the line inside a secondary over-wrap. ASTRACEC machines test the primary bag through the over-wrap, so the product reaches the patient as it was packed.

The challenge
The over-wrap hides the bag you need to test.
The over-wrap protects the primary bag, but it also stands between the bag and the test. Some methods cannot reach the primary container, and opening the pouch to test it means the bag cannot be released.
Destructive sampling
Opening the pouch to test a sample destroys a sellable unit and only covers a fraction of the batch.
Two layers, one question
A leak in the primary bag must be detected, even when the over-wrap is intact.
Real condition
Testing before over-wrapping leaves the final packing step unchecked.

How ASTRACEC handles it
The whole package, read as one.
Probe Position Decay™ reads the sealed bag through its over-wrap and returns a quantitative result for every unit. Nothing is opened and nothing is added to the product.
- Primary bag tested inside the over-wrap
- Non-destructive and non-invasive
- Deterministic and quantitative result for every bag
- Off-line on POLAR or 100% in-line on VEGA
Which machine
Sample testing or every bag on the line.
Both machines use the same method. Settings are defined for each over-wrap and bag format during the feasibility study.
| POLAR · laboratory | VEGA · in-line | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical use | Release and investigation samples | 100% testing after over-wrapping |
| Loading | Manual, by operator | Fully automatic |
| Detection | Down to 3 µm | Down to 1 µm |
| Bag volume | Up to 10 L | Up to 30 L |
Detection data for this application will be published once cleared by ASTRACEC. Over-wrap materials and fit vary, so results are confirmed for your format in a feasibility study.
